Our Values of LGBTQ+ STEM Berlin.

Visibility

We aim to increase the visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals from STEM fields. We see our get-together events and social media presence as opportunities to build a network and support system for individuals from STEM fields. Whether openly out or closeted, we want to give all our members a sense of belonging by representing our community in Berlin.

Inclusivity

We want to create a space where all people are welcome, independent of age, background, origin, race, color, disabilities, sexual orientation and gender identity. Allies, too, are always welcome. Personal preferences and boundaries are highly respected, especially when it comes to public exposure during and after our events, e.g. on social media.

Motivation

We are a small group of individuals offering some time and ideas to create new ways of forging connections, both within the LGBTQ+ community as well as outside of it. New members, ideas and suggestions which are compatible with our values are very welcome. We are committed to learn, grow & incorporate changes in our day to day lives to help better our community.

We are, and will always remain, an independent group that is not aligned with any company or institution. We sometimes organize events together with institutions and companies, but this does not mean that we necessarily stand for their policies or agree with their actions. We are about connecting people in STEM and we never advertise – nor give advice on whether to join – any company or institution.

Our Mission

We’re here to increase the visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals in STEM and connect the community, starting with Berlin. Our group was born on July 5th, 2019 and has been steadily growing ever since. People of all ages, backgrounds, origins, race, color, sexual orientation and gender identity are welcome to join us: let us be out and proud together! We also collaborate with groups around the globe. We are a part of the organizing collective behind the LGBTQ+ STEM Day.

Our Events

We offer a selection of different events throughout the year.

  • LGBTQ STEMTisch

LGBTQ STEMTisch events give an opportunity to connect to other LGBTQ+ STEM people in Berlin. Let us grow our community, share and discuss our experiences as LGBTQ+ individuals from STEM fields and simply enjoy a nice evening together.

  • LGBTQ STEMKultur

LGBTQ STEMKultur events are relaxed visits to cultural venues, like museums, galleries etc. They are more casual events, focused on getting to know each other, than our more structured STEMTisch. Let’s connect and explore together learning more about our world (and have fun!).
